SWATCHES & FIRST IMPRESSIONS | DIORSHOW MONO IN TECHNO, SHOW, COSMOPOLITE & FRONT ROW

Dior have launched their new formulation of their single eye shadows (to replace the existing, square-shaped ones) - the Diorshow Mono Professional Eye Shadows.  They are meant to give "spectacular effects" and are long wearing.

"Diorshow Mono, the eyeshadow used by the Dior makeup artists, was inspired by the fabric textures of the brand's fashions - matte, silky, ultra-glittery and lamé - and features super-saturated hues to deck the eyes in long-lasting colors with radiant finishes."
"Four custom effects that reflect Dior fashion fabrics: matte, silky, glittery and the new lamé."
~ Dior.

These are now available in Dior counters across Australia in select Myer and David Jones department stores.  Note, when I went to visit a three counters (from both Myer and David Jones) on the weekend, not all of the shades were in stock yet, but testers were available for all of them.  I've been told the other shades should arrive this week some time.  Here are some photos of four of the shades I purchased, my first impressions and swatches.  It was quite hard to restrain myself as they are all beautiful! >_<  There's a huge selection of 20 shades available.  I did want one more shade, called "Evening" (173), which is a beautiful, medium to dark, muted cornflower blue with a matte finish.  This one looked grey in the pan under store lighting, but swatched more blue. :)  However, this was one of the shades not yet in stock, but I will definitely have to go back for this one!

Packaging
Packaging-wise, they are gorgeous.  They are rectangular rather than square shaped.  The compact is in light-weight, sleek, black lacquer with a velvet pouch.
Below is how the size of the compact looks with respect to my slightly smaller than average hand.
Each eye shadow comes with a tiny, dual-ended applicator shown below.  One end has a sponge tip for depositing colour and the other has an angled, fluffy brush for blending.  It has a silver handle with the Dior logo on it.  The brush is a little scratchy for my liking.  I would only use these if you are just using one colour on your lid rather than layering multiple colours, and if you don't have your own proper brushes on hand (AKA desperate!). ;-)
Of course, these have a mirror under the lid, which I like for convenience.
Colours
Show (296)
Show (296) is indeed very showy in the pan with its pretty silver shimmers twinkling away at you within the stunning dark, but vibrant blue colour.  Unfortunately, when swatched, the colour is much darker, like a navy blue rather than a bright blue and it is more matte with only a trace of shimmer here and there. :-(  It was also the sheer one out of all the ones I swatched.  It felt dry.  The sales assistant did try this on my on the outer corners of my eyes and it "appeared" to smoke out fine, but this was under the worst store lighting (where all the shades pretty much looked grey on my skin tone)!  When I tried it again on my own at home, I found that the eye shadow did not apply evenly. :'(  For the hefty price of a single eye shadow, I really think it has to be perfect and this one is not.  So, I will be trying to return this one in exchange for the "Evening" shade - hopefully David Jones will let me! >_<  I have found that I've been able to exchange a Chanel foundation in Myer recently, so fingers crossed!

Cosmopolite (658)
This one was my very first pick and what drew me most.  It's like a rose golden, coppery shade with a silvery shimmer so it looks slightly taupe-ish at the same time.  This was smooth, buttery and extremely pigmented. :-)  I can see this will be a popular one for sure!  Definitely a must-have IMO.  This is one of those eye shadows with a universally flattering colour and stunning, shimmering finish that makes it stand out just on its own on the eye lids.  I will no doubt, get a lot out of use out of this one, so money well spent.

Front Row (756)
Front Row is also going to be one of those popular shades.  Probably after Cosmopolite. ;-)  It's a beautiful, cool-toned rose taupe or dusky mauve with a satin finish.  Again, love the smooth, silky, almost creamy texture of this.  Like Cosmopolite, the pigment and texture of this is so incredible that I can apply this with just my clean finger and call it a day.  Gotta love that!

Techno (026)
Guys, Techno is an amazing, metallic silver.  It's got it all.  The wow factors of a loud colour, glitzy, glamorous finish, strong pigment, smooth (no chunks of glitter in it) texture and ease of blendability.  I thought that in my thirties, this wouldn't be for me... LOL... but, actually, when I tried it on, it was more wearable than I thought.  I think this is due to the ultra fine texture and finish that it makes it more sophisticated and also means it melds well with the skin so it doesn't look ageing as some glitzy eye shadows can make your skin look.  It also doesn't seem to look too stark against my medium, olive (~NC30) skin for some reason.  This one worked both as crease colour (applied softly) and layered with other shades, and on its own on the eye lids applied with full colour.  I will definitely use this with confidence for special occasions or a fancy dinner out with el hubby. ;-)  Techno brings much excite to my heart and I'm sure it will to many others who want a bit of glam to their look.  It's certainly a runway colour, but if you wear it with minimal makeup elsewhere, anyone can easily pull it off, in my opinion.  At least give this one a try first as it may surprise you in a good way like it did me.

Here it is again below, but photographed in low light (without a strobe) to capture more of the stunning shimmers. ^_^
Swatches
Below are the swatches of the four shades applied on my medium, olive (~NC30) skin and photographed indoors using a strobe.  They were swatched dry using a clean finger with no primer or base used underneath.
Above swatches left to right: Techno, Show, Cosmopolite and Front Row.
Size
Each eye shadow contains 2 g / 0.07 oz of product.  (MAC Cosmetics single eye shadows in comparison contain 1.3 g / 0.04 US oz).

Overall
I never tried the original formula, so I can't compare these with those.  However, I can definitely say that with the exception of Show, I'm very impressed with the texture, pigmentation, finishes and huge colour selection in this new line at least with the three other shades I've purchased.  I did quickly swatch many of the other shades in store and they all did seem to be quite good as well. :)  If it's within your budget, definitely check these out, but I do warn you that choosing shades will be hard (unless you're lucky enough to be able to own all of them!  Then, wow! ;-) )  But, if I had to choose one shade, then I'd say that Cosmopolite is a must-have as it can be worn any time (or just about depending on your personal comfort zone and situation) and will suit many if not all skin tones.  It's still neutral, but the shimmering finish adds interest and glam.

If you're interested and if time permits with baby(!), I will try to post some comparison swatches soon.  In the meantime, I hope this was helpful.

Happy mid-week! ^_^ xo

Have you seen these yet?  What do you think?  Which shades excite you?
