Hakuhodo Cheek Brush Black Handle Medium in Singapore!

Hakuhodo! One of the top brush brands in the entire world right now.

Not sure if I mentioned anywhere last year, but I really splurged on many Hakuhodo brushes when they set up a temporary booth in Takashimaya. This is the first time I am reviewing one of their brushes, so if you like this one, and want more, feel free to ask for the review!

Hakuhodo Cheek Brush Black Handle Medium
This brush does not have any marking/label, but I remember the sales assistant showing me a few black handled cheek brushes of similar shape, and explaining to me how I can choose one most suitable for my face and habit. I chose the medium one because I am not a fan of huge cheek brushes, and my face is too large for tiny cheek brushes.

The black handled Hakuhodo brushes are the most affordable of all their brushes, and actually much less pricey than M.A.C. This one here is maybe about SGD 45?

Brush Structure and Make
Aside from the stunning Hakuhodo label, the brush handle is rather normal - glossy black, very light, fits nicely into my hand's natural curves, but not exactly ergonomic. The metal ferrel that holds the bristles are also pretty normal.

I really like the length though! All Hakuhodo brushes are made for personal use, and that's why the length is rather short. Long handles are good for makeup artists, while short ones are great for just you and yourself.

Bristles
LOVE! MAD LOVE! Yes, they are right, the raves are right - the Hakuhodo softness is heavenly.

They are natural hair so they do pick up a good amount of product. Yet, they are so gentle on the skin, so even the driest of skins wouldn't get micro-exfoliated.

Shape
The Hakuhodo medium cheek brush is basically a paddle brush that is tapered at the sides from the flat-view (above), and tapered off to a point from the side-view (below). This makes is really good for dabbing extra colour right onto the centre of the apple of my cheeks, using the point. The tapered sides make it really good for blending and sweeping colour right up to the top of my ears.

It is that standard traditional blush brush shape, but done to Japanese perfection.

Size
For a brief size-reference, below is a photo of the brush on its flat side, sitting on my cheeks. This medium size fits beautifully between my eyes and mouth, while still leaving ample space so I don't look like a clown.

I do prefer this size to the Real Techniques Blush Brush. I do love the RT blush brush a lot but it is just a tad big for my face. RT has its own set of advantages though.

Hardness
I really like that this brush is still hard enough to pick up enough pigments from my harder blushes like NARS, yet soft enough to go into buttery Estee Lauder gelee type of blushes.

I do prefer this brush to Lunasol natural hair cheek brush because of this point. The Lunasol one is way too soft and dysfunctional for SGD 100.

Con
It has shed a little thus far, compared to the Lunasol cheek brush that has not shed one bit.

Rating: 4.8/5.
The supreme quality far outweighs the fact that it sheds hair. For less than SGD 50, this is a brush you want to run out and buy.

I am not particular about the weight of the handle. To me, the lighter the better, why not?
But I am aware that the Hakuhodo brush may not be so appealing to people who like heavy handles - I think Tom Ford would be a better choice if you like heavy handles.

***Price is subjected to my memory and also subjected to change IF Hakuhodo comes back to Singapore.

If I am not wrong, the Hakuhodo counter is in Singapore right now!!! At Takashimaya cosmetics Level 1, around the Clinique area.
